How often should you bathe your dog?
Most dogs need a bath every 3 to 6 weeks. Bathing more often than the coat requires strips natural oils and can cause dryness and itching; bathing less allows dead hair and dirt to build up into mats.
Short-coated breeds like Pug or Labrador tolerate longer gaps. Double-coated breeds like Husky or Golden Retriever need de-shedding more than frequent bathing. Curly coats like Poodle or Schnauzer mat quickly and need brushing between visits.
Skin conditions change the answer entirely: a dog under veterinary treatment may need medicated baths on a schedule your vet sets, not your groomer.
If your dog rolls in mud every week, the practical rule wins over the theoretical one. Talk to your groomer about a routine that fits your actual life.
